“Sometimes you do things for the right reasons and sometimes for the wrong ones and sometimes it’s impossible to tell the difference” - Nicola Yoon
Overall Rating: 4/5
Gosh this book was written so beautifully. It kept you wrapped around because it had an easy flowing vibe to it , but also illustrations that is not something I can say I’ve seen a lot in books and honestly that is what I enjoyed most about this book. This book follows Maddy an 18 year-old who has been sheltered from the world because she has a rare disease ( SCID ) which leaves her confined to the walls of her house. Her mom , her nurse and her books are her best friends.... that is until a new family moves in next door. She is consumed by knowing their schedules and about their lives. Olly is the young good looking boy that moves in next door and notices Maddy. Everything changes as emotions grow and Maddy desires to be part of the outside world because the more she gets to know Olly the more she finds herself wanting to risk everything for a perfect day with him.
Honestly if it was just on the way the book was written I’d give this one a 5++++ because I loved it. However there were certain things in the storyline that I felt ultimately made the book less impactful. Something I did not know is this disease is real and it truly affects people. I buddy read this with one of my bookstagram friends whom lives with an auto immune disease and I couldn’t begin to say how strong someone has to be to face a sickness like this. I feel this books sheds light on something very close to some people’s hearts and I feel it should’ve done it justice and it didn’t in my opinion and ultimately that’s what led me to give it a 4 star review.
What are your thoughts if you’ve read this book??
