The Woman In The Window
"And if I don't want to die, I've got to start living" - A.J Finn
Overall Rating : 5/5
(P.S if there was a possibility to give it more I would :) )
Synopsis ( Taken from Good Reads ) :
Anna Fox lives alone, a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times--and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, and their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare. What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.
I literally just finished this book and I wanted to write this blog post immediately because I want to portray all the emotions I am feeling . This book is a masterpiece , you can tell the author wanted the details to be vivid and immersive. Honestly I can't recall the last time that I read a book where I could vividly imagine a scene as if I was watching a movie. The detail that A. J Finn puts into every chapter , every scene is incredible. Anna our protagonist is agoraphobic and her specific fear is going outside her house. She stays inside but not sheltered from the outside as she drinks and spies on her neighbors. Then one day she sees something unsettling . We are left with questions and confusion that slowly unravel chapter by chapter . I swear towards the end of the book I could imagine all these characters and everything playing out in front of me like a suspense movie. This book isn't about the fast pace thrill that keeps you going , It's actually quite the contrary. A.J Finn takes his time developing an environment that completely takes you over. The story develops slowly but with enough speed to keep you engaged. Unlike most thrillers , I didn't want to finish this book and I didn't want to anticipate how it was going to end and this paid off because I was into the story and thinking about big reveal or shocking twist that the ending was fully satisfying. I cannot recommend this book enough. I know this book has received all the rave on various media platforms like Bookstagram and Good Reads. I honestly think it 100% deserves all the rave. Even if you don't read thrillers this is a great book and even a great starter to this genre. This is by far my favorite read of 2018 even though it is barely February I think this will make my top 5 if not my number 1.
